Lovely work ... obviously an advanced builder. In my case my only real weakness is texturing - a problem you obviously don't experience judging from the quality of this piece!

Thanks, I do sometimes have some trouble with UVW texture wrapping in Max, I'm getting the hang of it slowly but I love simple box or planer texturing whenever I can get away with it as it's simple ;)

In Second Life (the medium I make all my models in) texturing is a nightmare ... to add to my woes, I'm NOT capable of manufacturing my own, so its a wonder at all that any of my models end up coming out well. I often think that given the limitations of Second Life as a rendering engine, its a wonder that anything turns out well ... but then I love Second Life because of its realtime WYSIWYG interface, even if Linden Labs keep messing around with it.

Sounds a lot like the love hate relationship I had with a 3D ap I used to use called "Amorhium Pro" On one hand I loved it becaue it was simple to use but I hated that it's ridiculousely high poly models were not compatible wit hmany other 3D aps except Bryce

Yep, except in Second Life its possible to make something and then to leave it out for all to see .. sort of a drive-by viewing. Somebody, irrespective of their place on the planet can just drop in and see the model, walk around it .. etc. With an art package you are limited to just seeing a static image on a screen. With SL you can see it in realtime, even interact with it. This is my reason for using it. The dA gallery is simply an extension of that to try and promote my work outside of SL.

I forgot to ask you if you sell anything on SL and if so if you are making any money on that site? I sell on Turbosquid and they are pretty good for sales.

Nope, never sold a thing - mainly because I've never felt the need until now. My work improves with every project and when I feel it has reached the level of precision and quality that I consider sufficient I'll begin selling. There is real money to be made in Second Life but in order to do this you need also to invest real money. Second Life is at times, not for the faint hearted. It is a very real world of alternatives.

Hmmm, I'd never heareed of SL before, I'll have to check it out. I've heared of Google sketchup but have never looked into, I wonder if it's similar?

Nope, its actually very different. I'll explain. You join Second Life for free - no strings attached and you create a basic avatar when you start. After creating an account you activate it and logging in for the first time your avatar arrives at a welcome island. This is pretty much there to give you a chance to have a quick play around with the controls, after which you either contact a friend already in world and have them teleport you to a new region or you use a landmark to visit a new place completely at random, after which most of the grid is open to you. There are thousands of regions, all with different things on them and different types of builds in place. Some of them are excellent, some of them are not ... frankly a lot of it is garbage, but that's only because the people who made them are not artists and have very little real talent. However, that said there are places in Second Life which look so real you would swear it was REAL.

Basic movement is covered when you arrive in world, teleportation (using landmarks) allows movement between regions (simulations) and you can communicate via keyboard either privately or publically. You can also use voice, but a great number of people consider it intrusive as everyone can head a real loud mouth when they choose to do that in a busy area and frankly it's quite irritating. You can add ''friends'' to a list, you have an ''inventory'' of items. You can change the complete look of your avatar (AV) and even purchase clothing, hair, skins, etc. You name it, it happens in Second Life. The only thing about Second Life that sucks is that you have to pay to upload images, sounds, etc to their servers. If you are really serious about it and want to do more in there you can purchase a region and make it over any way you want. Anyway, that's the basics about Second Life ... and everything in my gallery was made in there in real time.

It sounds very interesting, do you know if you are limited to ONLY being able to build things in SL or can you make things in other applications and upload them fully textured and what not?
